Bridging the Gap is a group exhibition from East Anglian Stitch Textiles (EAST), who have spent the previous year pondering the role of women both past and present. This includes specific examples of women who, despite their gender and their circumstance have forged a path and a way forward either for themselves or for others to embrace.
In this exhibition, the artist and therefore the viewer is asked to consider what is the bridge and/or equally what is meant by the gap? It may not be one distinctive or single answer but a cumulative journey that starts with a small idea and eventually encompasses many interwoven networks.
EAST hopes to become the bridge by linking their “women of inspiration” and the wider audience that views the final work.
EAST was formed in 1995 when the group’s founder member, Carol Dixon, realised how little there was available for textile artists in East Anglia who wanted to extend their creative skills, and expand awareness of textile art to a wider audience.
'Bridging the Gap' is open at Babylon Gallery from Tuesday 4th June until Sunday 30th June 2024.
Meet the Artists events: 15th and 16th June, 12-3:30pm.
