Over 200 people enjoyed the sunshine on Jubilee Gardens for The Big Lunch event on Sunday 5 June.

This national initiative developed by the Eden project was supported by Babylon ARTS, Friends of Jubilee Gardens, City of Ely Perspective and Ely City Council.

Local people were invited to get together for a mass picnic to enjoy the sunshine and entertainment provided by Waterbeach Brass Band. The Maltings sponsored the Ely event providing free Cream Teas and Pickled Pig Cider. Head Chef and General Manager Andy Byrne said “ The Maltings Compass Group are happy to support a local event and hope its popularity will grow year on year”. He continued “The Maltings would be proud to sponsor the event for the next 5 years”.

Chairman of The Friends of Jubilee Gardens Patricia Simmonds stated “It’s a pleasure to have a true community event in these beautiful gardens. By all accounts the day was a success, local resident Jean said she often comes along to the band performances. It’s great to see this kind of event at the beginning of the season”.
